A preliminary investigation determined that a driver in a 2014 gray Nissan Pathfinder was travelling southbound on Remsen Avenue and made a wide left eastbound turn onto Avenue M.

While making the turn, the Nissan struck 65-year-old Ali A. Alshawesh, who was walking eastbound on the south sidewalk near the edge of the roadway, officials said.

The Nissan then continued forward and struck the rear of a parked and unoccupied 2007 red Dodge Nitro.

EMS transported Alshawesh to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan fled the location.

The vehicle was later recovered unoccupied in front of 1454 East 96 Street, officials said.

The driver of the vehicle is still being sought and an investigation remains ongoing.
