BASS RIVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Police arrested a man in New Jersey earlier this month for kidnapping a woman for over a year after his alleged victim fled to a gas station, a new affidavit of probable cause shows.

The woman had met James Parrillo, 57, in February 2022 at a gas station in New Mexico and they started a consensual relationship.

About a month later, the woman tried to end the relationship, but Parrillo choked and threatened to kill her family if she left, according to court documents reviewed by NJ.com.

Parrillo allegedly took his victim’s phone, used her debit cards and refused to allow her to contact family and friends.

In Dec. 2022, the pair moved to Bass River Township, New Jersey.

The victim fled the home on Feb. 7 after Parrillo allegedly choked her during an argument.

She ran into a gas station on Route 9 near County Road 542, where she took refuge with the attendant.

A short time after she reached the gas station, her alleged kidnapper arrived and tried to remove her, but she had barricaded herself in the office.

When state troopers confronted him, he refused to give his real name and was arrested for hindering his own apprehension, officials said.

Police charged Parrillo with kidnapping and related crimes.
