NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A panhandler was arrested for stabbing a 76-year-old subway rider who wouldn't give him money in Herald Square—after he punched another straphanger in Chelsea, police said Tuesday.
David Trotman, 38, was charged with felony assault in Sunday night's stabbing on the steps of the 34th Street–Herald Square station.
Asked about the stabbing as he was led away in cuffs early Tuesday, Trotman told a Daily News reporter, "Caucasians are ignorant people. They suck d*** in their sleep. That's what happened."
Trotman, a Queens resident who has a history of arrests and has served time in state prison, is allegedly the man who stabbed Iqbal Ahmed for not giving him cash around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Ahmed, a travel agent, was trying to catch an F train home to Brooklyn when he encountered his attacker on the station steps. "Give me money," the stranger demanded before knifing Ahmed in the chest moments later, according to police.
"He did not give me a chance to say anything," Ahmed told the Daily News from his hospital bed at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was rushed in critical condition after the stabbing. His condition has since improved, but he's expected to spend days in the hospital.
Trotman was busted at the 42nd Street station in Times Square on Monday after he allegedly punched a 42-year-old straphanger in the face on an uptown A train at the 23rd Street station in Chelsea, police said.
He's also reportedly the suspect in a sex attack on a 21-year-old woman in Lower Manhattan on July 12.
