NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for a man who attacked a 65-year-old commuter with a hammer in a Queens subway station earlier this week.

The attacker approached the man around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Northern Boulevard station in Woodside and snatched the glasses off his face, scratching him in the process, according to officials.

He then pulled a hammer out of his jacket pocket and hit the victim in the shoulder before fleeing on foot, authorities said.

The man suffered minor injuries, but refused medical treatment at the scene.

The attacker showed up at Peace & Plants, an organic restaurant in Woodside at the corner of Broadway and 54th Street, around 5:18 a.m. that same morning, according to police.

He allegedly started threatening employees and throwing merchandise.

He grabbed the tip jar and fled on foot, officials said.

No one was injured during the incident at the restaurant.

Police are asking anyone with information on the attacks to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Anonymous tips can also be submitted on the Crime Stoppers website or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
