Man arrested for Queens subway station fight turned fatal after victim struck by train

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police have arrested a man who allegedly got into a physical dispute with a 48-year-old man at a Queens subway station Monday which turned deadly after the victim fell onto the tracks and was struck by a train.

The fatal encounter happened around 4:45 p.m. at the Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street subway station in Jackson Heights, authorities said.

An innocuous bump sparked a fight between the the victim, Heriberto Quintana, and 50-year-old Carlos Garcia, whose phone fell onto the tracks.

Quintana was either shoved or fell onto the tracks, where he was struck by a northbound F train, officials said.

Emergency responders transported him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he died.

Garcia was arrested and charged with manslaughter Tuesday.
