Man stabbed on Coney Island street drives to police station, dies of injuries

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 23-year-old man who was stabbed in broad daylight on a Coney Island street on Sunday managed to drive to a police station but ultimately died from his injuries, police said Monday.

The victim was stabbed at West 36th Street and Mermaid Avenue around 2 p.m., reportedly while he was involved in a dispute with two men in their 20s or 30s.

The mortally injured victim got into a minivan and drove more than 10 blocks to an NYPD stationhouse at West 23rd Street and Mermaid Avenue, the Daily News reported.

“He drove to the police station,” a supermarket worker told the outlet. “When he got to the police station, he lost consciousness and tried to get out of the car and he collapsed.”

EMS then responded and transported him to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, where he died of a stab wound to the torso.

He was identified as Kristian Vargas, of East New York.

Two persons of interest were reportedly taken into custody, although no arrests had been reported as of Monday.
