The incident happened on Sept. 6 around 12:50 p.m. on Richardson Avenue and East 237th Street in Wakefield but police did not specify the type of commercial establishment that was targeted.

The thief approached an employee of the store saying he was a police officer there to conduct a business inspection and demanded merchandise from the employee, according to officials.

When the employee asked the man to verify his credentials, he simulated having a shield and gun in his waistband. He then took several items and put them in a black bag before fleeing the scene, cops said.

The man made away with $90 in property. No injuries were reported as a result.

Police describe the man as having a dark complexion and last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a blue face mask.
