
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Authorities on Tuesday arrested a hit-and-run driver after a crash in Upper Manhattan early Monday, according to officials.
Police responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision at West 207th Street in the vicinity of Ninth Avenue at approximately 4:15 a.m.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 23-year-old Frailyn Garcia-Diaz was driving a 2019 Mercedes Benz sedan was traveling eastbound in the left lane on West 207th Street in Inwood and a 32-year-old man was riding a motorized scooter with a 24-year-old passenger traveling eastbound on West 207th Street in the right lane.
According to officials, the Benz driver attempted to change lanes from the left lane to the right lane and struck the rear of the scooter on the right-side guide rail, causing the driver and passenger of the scooter to become ejected onto the roadway.
The passenger of the scooter sustained various complaints of pain throughout the body, while the driver sustained critical bodily injuries.
EMS transported both victims to NYC Health & Hospitals/Harlem, where the passenger was treated and released, and the driver remains in critical condition.
Garcia-Diaz initially fled the scene but was later located and placed under arrest.
He was charged at 1:35 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25 with leaving the scene of an accident- serious injury.
The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
