NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- The NYPD released a surveillance image Wednesday of a suspect in an unprovoked attack on a man waiting at a Brooklyn subway platform this week.

The 67-year-old victim was standing on the northbound R train platform at the Union Street station around 8:40 p.m. Monday when he was assaulted for no reason.

A masked man sitting on a nearby bench stood up, walked over and socked him in the head, police said.

The victim suffered injuries to his face. He was transported in stable condition to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

The attacker fled the station after the assault.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
