NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A man was stabbed in the stomach by knife-wielding man as the two fought in a Greenwich Village subway station over the weekend, police said as they search for the suspected stabber.
The NYPD released surveillance video Tuesday showing the two men fighting near the turnstiles.
Police said the men had gotten into argument outside the 7-Eleven on W. 3rd Street, near Sixth Avenue, around 4:15 a.m. on Saturday.
The victim pursued his attacker into the nearby W. 4th Street–Washington Square station, where the two men “engaged in mutual combat,” police said.
During the brawl, one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man in the abdomen before fleeing, according to police.
The victim was transported by EMS to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The stabbing comes as the transit system saw a 50% spike in crime in September.
