NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man tried to sit on a woman and then slashed her boyfriend with a kitchen knife before she pepper-sprayed him in the face on an Upper West Side subway train this week, police said.

The NYPD released surveillance images Friday showing the suspect in Wednesday night’s slashing at the 72nd Street station.

The 34-year-old woman and her 26-year-old boyfriend were aboard a northbound 2 train around 11 p.m. when they were approached by the suspect, police said.

Out of nowhere, the man attempted to sit on the woman, prompting her boyfriend to tell him to “step back.”

That’s when the man slashed the boyfriend across his lower left leg with a large kitchen knife, police said.

The woman quickly pepper-sprayed the slasher, who fled the train and then the station.

EMS transported the boyfriend to Mount Sinai Morningside, where he was treated and released. No other injuries were reported.

Police said the suspect is believed to be about 50 years old.

The slashing came hours before a man was attacked with a sword sheath on a Lower Manhattan train amid rising concerns about subway crime.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
