Police received a 911 call at around 11 p.m. and responded to a blaze contained inside a unit on Faile Street in the Longwood section.

Upon arrival, officers found a 23-year-old victim inside who had sustained smoke inhalation. He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln.

Authorities said the incident began after the 28-year-old suspect got into a fight with a 24-year-old woman, reportedly his ex-girlfriend. The suspect then allegedly used an accelerant to set fire to her apartment.

The man then fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
