'Combative' man with knife slashes NYPD officer's face in the Bronx

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A knife-wielding man slashed an NYPD officer across the face in the Bronx on Thursday morning, police said.

The 26-year-old officer was responding around 7:15 a.m. to a call about a man with a knife at Andrews Avenue N. and W. Fordham Road in University Heights.

Officers encountered a 33-year-old man fitting the description about a block away at Grand Avenue and W. Fordham Road.

The man became “combative” and slashed the officer across the nose, police said.

The officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The suspect was taken into custody and hospitalized for an evaluation.

A knife was recovered at the scene, police said.
