The victim was later identified as Robert Tamburello, 70, a Staten Island resident.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that the Jeep Cherokee, operated by Tamburello was traveling southbound on 3rd Avenue within the center lane of traffic, when he suffered an apparent medical episode, causing him to drift to the right lane from the center lane of 3rd Avenue as he passed 50th Street, striking a parked/unoccupied tractor trailer within the west side of the intersection on 3rd Avenue.

The operator had no visible signs of trauma observed.

The front passenger, a 57-year-old woman was uninjured but was also transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in stable condition.
