BLUE POINT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- The mother of missing Long Island woman Gabby Petito told 1010 WINS Wednesday that she is determined to find her no matter what it takes.
1010 WINS’ Darius Radzius spoke to Nichole Schmidt while surrounded by family and friends in Blue Point, where she detailed more about the case and her efforts to find her daughter.
“Feeling a little stronger today, just staying focused on the work at hand,” said Schmidt.
Her 22-year-old daughter, who grew up on Long Island, went missing during a cross-country road trip with her fiancé Brian Laundrie.
Laundrie was named a person of interest in the case by North Port, Florida police Wednesday.
Schmidt pleaded for help, especially from Laundrie, who has not yet spoken to investigators.
“It boggles my mind, the girl that supposedly was the love of you life… ’til death do us part,” said Schmidt. “Just tell us what happened. Tell us where she is. Because you’re the last person that saw her, you know. I know you know."
Schmidt also questioned the family’s decision-making in the process of looking for her daughter, saying, “They supposedly loved her like one of their own? I don’t understand why they don’t care. They’re protecting their son, for what?”
Schmidt said she last received a text from her daughter's phone on Aug. 30, but said she couldn't prove whether it was actually sent from Petito. She last spoke to her daughter on a video call on Aug. 24.
“I’m going to do do what I have to do to find her. We’ll go to the end of the Earth and back until we get her back.”
Schmidt called the entire situation “indescribable,” adding that Petito’s father likened it to “drowning with your hands tied.”
