Motorcycle rider, passenger injured after crashing into SUV while running red light in BK

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two people riding a motorcycle were injured, one critically, after they crashed into an SUV while running a red light in Brooklyn Saturday night, authorities said.

The incident happened around 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of McDonald Avenue and Avenue C in Kensington, police said.

An 18-year-old man was driving a motorcycle with a 19-year-old male passenger when he ran a red light at McDonald Avenue, according to officials.

The motorcycle crashed into the driver’s side of an SUV being operated by an 85-year-old woman, cops said.

Both the driver and the passengers sustained injuries from the collision. According to the New York Post, the driver’s leg was severed. Police said he was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in critical condition. The passenger had a head injury and was transferred to Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition.

Neither the motorcycle driver or passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The driver of the SUV remained on the scene and did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident.
