The Arlington School District bus crashed into a New York State Police car around 3:12 p.m. on Route 55 near South Cross Road on Tuesday, according to authorities.

The bus monitor, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus driver, trooper and two adult students were taken to nearby hospitals. Doctors don’t believe any of their injuries are life threatening.

"It is with deep sadness that I inform you that an Arlington bus monitor was killed in the accident,” said the Arlington School District in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the monitor’s family, friends, and colleagues this evening. I know that you all join me in sending them our heartfelt condolences. As a community, we will continue to support the family during the days ahead."

The bus was on its way home from an off-campus program when the crash occurred, according to David Moyer, the district’s superintendent.

James is investigating under state law 70-b, which allows her to investigate any incident in which someone dies during an interaction with law enforcement.
