NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The city's Taxi & Limousine Commission will reportedly stop testing cab drivers for marijuana after New York state legalized the drug earlier this year.

Drivers can still be tested for other drugs and must be sober when driving, according to WABC.

“Due to the change in the law, going forward, the TLC will no longer test for marijuana in required annual drug tests,” the TLC said in a Friday memo to drivers obtained by the New York Post.

“While the use of marijuana is now legal for adults, it is still the law that TLC-licensed Drivers must be sober when they operate a vehicle,” the memo went on to say.

The TLC issues licenses to taxi, livery cab and ride-share drivers like Uber and Lyft.
