NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating racist flyers that were posted in and around a Coney Island high school this week.
The flyers were found at Abraham Lincoln High School on Monday, City Councilman Mark Treyger told 1010 WINS. They were also spotted near the school along Ocean Parkway.
“This is someone who has a lot of hate and racism in their blood, who said very vile things against the students, particularly African-American students,” Treyger said.
The councilman said he contacted the police after he got a message from the assistant principal of the school.
“When I received a copy of the flyer, I was horrified,” Treyger said. “It’s disgusting. It’s absolutely racist and unacceptable. I immediately called the 60th Precinct that covers the Coney Island community, and they were very responsive.”
The school has shared surveillance footage with the NYPD as the department investigates, Treyger said.
Treyger is organizing a meeting with school officials, the NYPD and others to ensure that student and staff feel safe and supported.
“It’s really important that we not only hold this bad actor accountable, but we reassure our students, our faculty, our community, that everyone—everyone—is safe and supported in this community,” he said.
