NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- An NYPD officer was released from a hospital and “going home to his family” for the holidays after he was shot and wounded while responding to a domestic incident in Brooklyn on Wednesday, officials said.

The officer, a seven-year veteran of the force, will recover after being shot in the foot during a confrontation with a gunman in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Mayor Eric Adams said at a press conference from NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where the cop was treated.

The mayor and NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell described him as a husband, father, brother and dedicated public servant. Video posted by the NYPD on Wednesday afternoon shows the injured cop being wheeled out of the hospital.

The officer was shot while responding to a report just after 8:30 a.m. of a man “breaking walls” at his friend’s apartment at 277 Gates Ave., a six-story apartment building near Franklin Avenue.

The friend called cops to report that he was “damaging the wall and refusing to leave” her apartment, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said.

The friend called cops to report that he was “damaging the wall and refusing to leave” her apartment, NYPD Chief James Essig said.

Four NYPD arrived at the scene shortly before 9 a.m. and met the suspect and his friend in front of the building.

Officers determined he should be placed under arrest for criminal mischief, but he allegedly struggled with them and fired a shot from a 9mm handgun.

“When they went to cuff him, a shot rings out,” Essig said.

The bullet struck the injured officer in the right foot, and the suspect fled for several blocks to 184 Monroe St., where two pursuing officers confronted him.

He fired one more shot at that location, while the two officers fired a total of six times, according to Essig.

The suspect was struck twice in the left thigh. He was then arrested and transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he’s expected to recover.

The suspect was identified as Raheen Joy, 41, of Gowanus, Brooklyn.

Joy has 17 prior arrests in Georgia between 1998 and 2014, most of them for low-level drug offenses. He was arrested in 2005 for discharging a weapon and also in 2007 for criminal possession of a weapon. Additionally, he had an outstanding warrant for criminal weapons possession from Troy, New York.

The officer was the 10th officer shot in nine incidents in 2022, officials said.

The shooting came hours after an on-duty MTA collection agent shot and wounded a man who’d been menacing him and his partner in the Park Slope subway, police said.
