The cops were observing a party with about 75-100 attendees at 219th Street and 130th Avenue in Springfield Gardens. The officers were there because they believed that some of the local street crews would cause violence, police said.

As the cops were monitoring the party, three men pulled up and took out three guns and started firing at the party crowd, according to cops.

The cops got out of their unmarked police car after seeing the men open fire and engaged the shooters before exchanging gunfire with them. The detectives were eventually able to apprehend the three shooters, officials said.

All three men were injured in the shooting and taken to a local hospital where one remains in critical condition and the other two have non-life-threatening injuries. The cops who opened fire were also taken to the hospital to be treated for tinnitus and other minor ailments.

Three guns were also recovered at the scene.

The NYPD is asking anyone with more information about the shooting to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
