Police said the 36-year-old man was writing the ticket on University Avenue near West 183rd Street around 12:20 a.m. when he was shot in the back with four of the water pellets.

He suffered a minor abrasion but refused medical attention.

It is unclear what sparked the incident, but the New York Post reports that it occurred after police in Florida and Georgia warned parents in March about a viral TikTok trend known as the #OrbeezChallenge.

The challenge reportedly involves using a gel-ball gun or an airsoft gun to shoot water gel pellets at friends or other people.

No arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon, police said.
