NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An off-duty correction officer and two other people were shot in Queens Sunday night while they were at a motorcycle club meet up, according to authorities.

The BBQ get together took place near Jamaica Avenue and 214th Place around 8 p.m., police said.

One man, Mark Gibbs, took out a gun and allegedly shot at a vehicle at which point the correction officer, David Donegan, returned fire, hitting him three times, according to officials.

Another gunman then allegedly shot at Donegan and hit him once in the left leg, authorities said.

During the exchange of gunfire, a third victim was struck. He later walked to the hospital to be treated for the gunshot wound, police said.

The correction officer was taken to Manhasset Hospital and Gibbs was taken to Jamaica Hospital.

“I just want to say I'm appreciative of the NYPD providing aid to our officer as he engaged the suspects,” said Commissioner of the New York City Department of Correction Luis Molina. “Our officer is in stable condition and recovering at our local hospital and he's with his family. But we're grateful that he took his action and to pursue his training and was able to engage with these two individuals that were providing gun violence in our city.”

Along with Molina, Eric Adams also praised Donegan for his actions during the situation.

“Those who were arrested for having firearms, we need them off our streets as we enter the summer months. This is a perfect example of a failing criminal justice system that continues to produce violence that we are experiencing,” Adams said at the press conference. “I thank God for the correction officer, being able to go home to his family, his wife and his children. I spoke with his wife. I spoke with him and he showed heroic actions tonight. And because of that, I believe you saved the lives of other innocent people in this community.”

All three victims are expected to survive their injuries.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
