Off-duty FDNY firefighter arrested after violent dispute with teen relative in Brooklyn home: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An off-duty FDNY officer was arrested Thursday over a violent dispute with a teen relative in their Brooklyn home, officials said.

According to police, FDNY Firefighter Steven McGuire was arrested just before 9:20 p.m. after he was involved in an argument with a 16-year-old boy, related to him inside their home in Bay Ridge.

The verbal dispute then turned physical and McGuire punched the victim to the ground, placed his arm around the teen's neck, and applied pressure, the NYPD said.

The teen was taken to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn for treatment.

McGuire was charged with assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17.

The investigation remains ongoing.
