Off-duty NYC sanitation worker busted on DWI, drug charges after slow drive on SI Expressway

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An off-duty city Sanitation Department employee was arrested early Wednesday morning and accused of driving drunk and possessing a drug after a traffic stop off the Staten Island Expressway, police said.

Jared Burns, 47, was allegedly driving a 1998 Honda at a very slow speed and swerved on the expressway leading to the stop, a source told the Staten Island Advance. His car was pulled over in the vicinity of Bradley and North Gannon avenues.

The NYPD said he was arrested at 2:20 a.m. and has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, operating a motor vehicle at .08 of 1% alcohol, driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by alcohol and refusing to take a breath test.
