NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A woman claiming to be a New York City probation officer was arrested late Wednesday night in Brooklyn after she allegedly assaulted an NYPD officer while attempting to stop police from arresting her son, authorities said.
According to police, the incident happened around 11:15 p.m. after police officers witnessed the woman’s 26-year-old son allegedly stealing beer from a deli in the Canarsie neighborhood.
The suspect then fled into his home on Rockaway Parkway where officers attempted to arrest him, officials said.
Swan Williams, 47, then closed the door on the officer and then reportedly put her hands on an officer and allegedly choked him.
Williams was charged with an assault on a police officer and obstructing governmental administration.
The NYPD initially identified Williams as a New York City probation officer. Police later said that pursuant to an ongoing investigation, it was determined that she Williams is not a New York City Probation Officer and has been additionally charged with criminal impersonation of a public servant.
An investigation remains ongoing.
