Everton Stewart, 48, was standing between two parked vehicles on East 89th Street near Avenue L around 9:35 a.m., when a driver waiting for another motorist to pass unexpectedly accelerated into one of the parked cars, police say.

When EMS arrived, they found Stewart unconscious with head trauma, according to authorities. They rushed him to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested the 46-year-old driver responsible for the crash, who stayed on the scene.

Charges are pending, and the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
