
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police are investigating the death of an 8-year-old Bronx boy who died at a hospital Tuesday after being brought there from his home unconscious.
Joseph Barney was taken to Montefiore Medical Center’s Wakefield campus by his mother around 2:10 p.m., police said.
By the time he was at the hospital’s emergency room, he was unconscious and unresponsive, according to police.
The 8-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said the medical examiner will determine the child's cause of death.
The boy’s mom told police she found him unconscious at their home on E. 214th Street in the Williamsbridge section, the Daily News reported.
Doctors told investigators that the boy appeared to be malnourished, according to the report.
No arrests have been reported. Police said an investigation is ongoing.
