NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating a midtown stabbing they believe was motivated by anti-Turkish sentiment.

A 24-year-old man was approached by a stranger around 12:15 a.m. on Friday near West 44th Street and 9th Avenue who spewed “anti-nationality” hate speech at him before stabbing him in the torso and running away, according to authorities.
The victim says the attacker asked him if we was Turkish, and when he replied in the affirmative responded "I hate Turkish people" before stabbing him, the New York Daily News reported.
EMS rushed the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition while the suspect fled northbound on 10th Avenue by foot.
Police are asking anyone with information on the stabbing to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit anonymous tips at the Crime Stoppers website or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
