NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Queens man is facing 25 years to life in prison after he was convicted of killing an acquaintance in 2018, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Wednesday.
Marcos Anzurez, 34, was convicted Tuesday of first-degree manslaughter and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after stabbing Luis Angel Solis Apolonio, 29, to death on March 11, 2018, prosecutors said.
According to court testimony, Anzurez and Solis Apolonio were engaged in a heated argument outside of the victim's home, which turned into a physical altercation.
An eyewitness was able to separate the two men, after which Anzurez turned his back and appeared to walk away.
Prosecutors said Anzurez then quickly turned around with a black folding knife in his hand and began repeatedly slashing and stabbing Apolonio. The blade sliced into the victim's neck, torso and extremities causing his death.
"Following a jury trial, this defendant was found guilty of causing the senseless death of his acquaintance during a night out and over nothing more than a verbal dispute," Katz said in a statement. "My Office will continue to hold accountable those who escalate arguments into deadly altercations. The defendant faces a lengthy prison term as punishment for his criminal actions."
Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise indicated that he would sentence Anzurez on Dec. 12, prosecutors said.
