NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Frank James, the man suspected of open firing into an N train subway car in April, has made an unlikely friend while he awaits his trial in jail — R&B legend and notorious sex trafficker R. Kelly.

Both men are being held at Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park.
Kelly is awaiting sentencing for sex trafficking charges the disgraced singer was convicted of in September.
James is awaiting trial for setting off smoke bombs and shooting 10 people. He pleaded not guilty to terrorism charges on Friday.
Both are high risk inmates, so they are housed in the same unit separated from the general population, the New York Daily News reported.
Anonymous sources told the Daily News that the two are “buds,” and that they eat together and like to hang out in the rec room.
Kelly has been singing for his fellow inmates. He reportedly once even gave an impromptu acapella performance of his platinum hit song “I Believe I Can Fly” in the visiting room.
He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, and James could face the same if found guilty.
