Scarecrow hung by noose outside LI senior center in possible hate crime: cops

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A scarecrow was found hanging by a noose outside a senior center on Long Island in an incident police are investigating as a hate crime, authorities said Monday.

Someone removed the scarecrow from the front of North Amityville Senior Center, on Cedar Road in North Amityville, and hung it from a trellis behind the center with a noose at some point between Friday at 4:40 p.m. and Monday at 12:05 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

The Suffolk County Police Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the incident as a hate crime, the department said.
