Scooter rider killed after slamming into box truck in the Bronx: police

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 32-year-old man riding a scooter was killed in the Bronx Monday after he struck a turning box truck, police said.

Police responded to a 911 call of a collision at around 6:11 a.m. near Baldor Specialty Foods at Food Center Drive in the Hunts Point section of the borough.

According to authorities, Wayne Vega, of East Harlem, was on a Dualtron Ultra scooter heading east on Food Center Drive when he crashed into a Hino box truck making a left turn onto the westbound side of the road.

Vega was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced dead.

The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
