NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – People can get a free burger or fries at Shake Shack if they get vaccinated against COVID-19, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday.

People will get a voucher for a burger or sandwich if they get a shot at a city mobile vaccine clinic over the next few days, the mayor said.

Those who’ve already been vaccinated can get a free side of fries with a burger or sandwich if they show proof of vaccination over the next month.

The mayor announced the initiative as he ate a burger and fries at his daily coronavirus briefing. He said “we’re going to keep rolling out incentives” to make getting vaccinated “easy and fun.”

De Blasio was joined by Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti from the New York chain’s original location in Madison Square Park.

“When you get your vaccine over these next few days, we’re going to get you with a free Shack burger card,” Garutti said. “Even better than that, our 25 shacks around New York City, any time you go for the next month—you’re there grabbing your burger, your chicken sandwich—show us your vaccine card, we’ll get you a free fries on us to say, ‘Thank you.’”

De Blasio also announced that people who get vaccinated can get a chance to win free tickets to the Global Citizen and Governors Ball music festivals being held in the city this summer.

The announcement came as New York state opened Pfizer vaccinations to kids ages 12 to 15.
