Shots fired at off-duty NYPD officer amid possible attempted carjacking in Harlem: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Officials launched a search after a gunman fired shots toward an off-duty NYPD officer late Wednesday in Harlem during a potential carjacking attempt, authorities said.

At around 11:30 p.m. the off-duty officer sat in his car near West 154th Street and Macombs Place when a suspect walked up and displayed a gun, according to police.

The officer did not comply with the gunman who then opened fire, the NYPD said.

The officer was not injured, but the gunman struck his vehicle.

No other injuries were reported.

The suspect fled southbound Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard in a silver Nissan Rogue, officials said.

An NYPD spokesperson said the incident was being investigated as a possible attempted carjacking.

No arrests have been made as of Thursday morning and authorities are still searching for the suspect who is described as a man standing about 6 feet, 1 inch, last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a black leather jacket, and black pants, according to police.
