NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The NYPD is investigating the death of a 75-year-old man who suffered a medical episode and crashed on Staten Island, police said Thursday.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 18, police responded to a 911 call of a single motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Ellsworth Avenue and Edgegrove Avenue in Woodrow.

A preliminary investigation by the NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad determined that Mario Parisi suffered a medical episode while operating a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Ellsworth Avenue.

As a result, Parisi lost control of his vehicle which then veered right, mounted the west side curb and overturned, coming to a final rest on its drivers side.

Parisi was freed from the vehicle and was discovered unconscious and unresponsive.

EMS responded and transported him to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he was pronounced dead.

There were no other vehicles involved in the collision.

An investigation remains ongoing.
