Nicole Marino, 31, was charged with grand larceny auto, criminal possession of stolen property, obstructing governmental administration, unauthorized use of a vehicle, hindering prosecution, falsely reporting an incident, criminal possession of a controlled substance and aggravated unlicensed operator.
Marino was behind the wheel of a 2006 Chevy Impala when she struck the 29-year-old female EMT at Locust Avenue and N. Railroad Avenue in New Dorp around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.
The victim was getting into her 2021 Mazda CX30 when she was hit by the Impala and sent onto the hood and windshield before falling to the roadway.
Officers responding to a 911 call found her on the pavement with “significant trauma” to her right leg as well as facial injuries.
Fellow EMTs transported her to Staten Island University Hospital North, where she remained in critical condition Friday.
After striking the victim, Marino crashed into a parked and unoccupied 2020 Volvo XC60, police said.
Marino initially told police she was a passenger in the vehicle and that the driver had fled on foot, the NYPD told the Daily News. However, she was arrested around 7 p.m. Thursday after cops determined she was the person they were looking for.
Marino was allegedly high on drugs and driving her father’s car without permission before the crash, according to the report.
The victim has not been officially identified.
“All members of FDNY EMS are pulling for our fellow EMT at this most difficult time and hoping for the most optimal outcome,” Oren Barzilay, president of FDNY Local 2507, told the Daily News. “We are here and will stand together with her family as we work through this process.”
