NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- It’s been over a decade since "The Sopranos" ended, but with the show’s prequel film "The Many Saints of Newark" hitting theaters this fall, it’s as relevant as ever.

Before it hits theaters though, it’ll premiere as a part of Tribeca’s Fall Preview.

The festival, which will offer a season-long series of film premieres and musical performances, begins on September 22 with a red carpet premiere of "The Many Saints of Newark" at the Beacon Theatre on the Upper West Side.

Speaking to 1010 WINS, Tribeca’s Festival Director Cara Cusumano called the decision to have the film premiere there perfect.

“It’s just a perfect film for us and for New York and for this fall. It takes place in New Jersey, but it feels like such a local story. And there’s obviously this incredible fan base of folks who [watched] 'The Sopranos' and are yearning for the next chapter of that story.”

The film won’t be the only thing New Yorkers can expect to see at the festival though. The filmmakers will be there too.

“The cast and the filmmakers will [also] be here with us to premiere it along with the audience.”

That includes series creator David Chase, the film’s director Alan Taylor, and even the late James Gandolfini’s son Michael. With the film focused on Tony Soprano’s more formative years, he fittingly stars in the film as a younger version of him.

Cusumano says all attendees will be asked to wear masks throughout the screening, and that “you’ll [also] be asked to provide your proof of vaccination.”
