The global coffee chain opened the all-digital, pickup-only café inside an Amazon Go store on East 59th Street and is using Amazon’s technology to allow customers to order on the Starbucks app, grab their drink and leave without opening a wallet.

“The new Starbucks Pickup with Amazon Go is designed to provide our customers with an experience that delivers convenience and connection in an effortless way,” said Katie Young, senior vice president of global growth and development at Starbucks.

The “Starbucks Pickup with Amazon Go” location will offer the full Starbucks menu and an assortment of pre-packaged food and drinks in the Amazon Go market.

The café also features a modern lounge with workspaces and expanded tables with power outlets and USB ports. To access the space, users can unlock entryways using their smartphones.

“Our goal with this new store concept is to give our customers the ability to choose which experience is right for them as they go through their day,” Young said.

Starbucks confirmed it is planning two additional pickup-only stores to open in 2022. The second location is planned for the New York Times Building at West 40th Street and Eighth Avenue.

While there are other pickup-only Starbucks locations in New York City and across the country, this marks the first time the coffee retailer has teamed up with Amazon to create a grab-and-go location.

The coffee giant noted that the new store concept better “aligns with Starbucks trade area transformation strategy, which builds on the strength of Starbucks digital customer relationships and the Starbucks app to meet evolving customer preferences for convenience, higher levels of mobile ordering and contactless pay, and reduced time waiting in lines.”

The new pickup-only Starbucks will be open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
