NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Four subway lines will be adhering to a faster run time, resulting in a speedier commute for roughly 900,000 New Yorkers, new MTA timetables obtained by the New York Daily News reveal.

Starting Monday, the 2, 3, 4 and 5 lines will run on a faster schedule on weekdays.

The 2 train is dropping its end-to-end run time by as much as 10 minutes. The 3 train is slated for a nine-minute reduction, the 4 train will reduce its runtime by four minutes, and the 5 train will drop eight minutes.

The MTA reduced speeds in 2018 in an attempt to reduce the rate of late trains and accommodate for longer boarding times brought about by a record number of commuters.

The latter of these factors is no longer relevant after the COVID-19 pandemic decimated ridership.

This speed up essentially reverses the 2018 slowdown for the four lines affected.

The new schedule will only apply on weekdays. Weekend trains will move at the same speed they have since before the pandemic.
