NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A subway rider was repeatedly slashed in an unprovoked attacked at a Midtown Manhattan subway station this week, police said Friday as they released images of a suspect.

The 37-year-old victim was on the southbound platform at the E/M Fifth Avenue/53rd Street station around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday when another man stormed up and assaulted him.

The stranger slashed the straphanger several times with a pocketknife, police said.

The victim suffered multiple, small lacerations to his head and right leg. He refused medical attention at the scene.

His attacker fled out of the station and onto the street, police said.
