NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A 16-year-old boy was arrested in the deadly, gang-related shooting of a 13-year-old boy in the Bronx last month, police said.
The unidentified teen faces charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in the July 11 shooting of Jaryan Elliot, according to police.
Elliot was shot outside a cafe on E. 187th Street in the Belmont section. He died at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Surveillance images released by the NYPD last month show a Honda Accord police were searching for in the shooting; a gunman can be seen leaning out of the vehicle. It’s unclear if police have recovered the car or if additional suspects are being sought in connection with the shooting.
NYPD Chief of Department Rodney Harrison said last month that the killing was gang related and that Elliot was believed to be the intended target. Police suspect the shooting was retaliation for the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man days earlier.
