NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A thief made off with nearly $17,000 worth of jewelry, clothing and other belongings after he broke into a home in Chinatown last month, the NYPD said Wednesday.

The man made his way into an apartment near Mulberry Street and Canal Street around 4:15 a.m. on June 16 after he used an “unknown object” to break the building’s front door, police said.

Once he was inside the building, the man crept into the apartment through an unlocked door and stole around $16,800 worth of bags, clothing, jewelry and electronics, the NYPD said.

Police are now searching for the man, who appeared to be in his 30s and was last seen wearing a light blue hoodie, a black jacket, grey pants and black boots.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
