VIDEO: Mercedes driver fleeing traffic stop rams cars, mounts sidewalk in the Bronx; 14 injured

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Fourteen people were injured when a Mercedes driver fleeing a traffic stop crashed into seven cars and drove onto a sidewalk in the Bronx on Wednesday evening, police said.

All 14 people suffered minor injuries in the chaotic incident at East Fordham Road and Marion Avenue in Fordham Heights around 5 p.m., WABC reported.

Police had tried to stop the driver of the bright green Mercedes for smoking marijuana and having excessively tinted windows when he sped off, according to police.

Bystander video shows the Mercedes crashing into vehicles in heavy traffic before driving onto a sidewalk and speeding off as shocked bystanders react. Citizen App video shows the aftermath: multiple damaged cars and debris littering the roadway.

The driver managed to get away, and the vehicle was later found abandoned at Hughes and Crescent avenues in the Belmont section, according to the New York Post.

No arrests have been reported.
