NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a man who yelled an anti-gay slur as he spat at, beat and pulled the hair of a 22-year-old stranger on a Manhattan subway train this month.
The NYPD released video Thursday of the March 19 attack as the department's Hate Crime Task Force investigates.
Police said the victim was on a northbound A train as it approached the 190th Street station in Washington Heights around 2:20 p.m. when his attacker sat across from him and said, “I wish I had my pepper spray” before spitting at him.
He then said, “I have to start carrying my pepper spray,” and again spat at the victim, according to police.

When the victim stood up, the man charged at him and grabbed him by his hair, police said. He then punched him multiple times in the face and head.
The assailant also ripped hair from the victim’s head and, using an anti-gay slur, told him, “I’m sick of all you f***.”

The victim lost hair and suffered multiple lacerations to his head. He was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.
