NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A water main break in Times Square flooded streets and caused subway service delays during Tuesday's morning commute.

The 20-inch main break happened at approximately 3 a.m. at Seventh Avenue between 39th and 40th streets above the Times Sq 42nd St subway station, causing it to quickly flood.

The water then flowed through the subway system to the 14th Street station, where it settled above the rail.

The flood prompted the MTA to shut down power at the Seventh Avenue station for "severely disrupted" service on the 1, 2, and 3 trains, according to the MTA.

Local streets around the break were also covered with water, causing Seventh Avenue as well as 41st to 39th streets and 39th Street to close between Sixth and Eighth avenue.

An investigation into the cause of the break is ongoing.
