NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 36-year-old woman died three days after a hit-and-run driver plowed into her, another woman and two children as they were crossing a Manhattan street, the NYPD said Friday.
Virginia Morales, of East Elmhurst, a 28-year-old woman, an 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were crossing the street at the intersection of West 183rd Street and Audubon Avenue in Washington Heights around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 when a Mercedes-Benz driver traveling south on the avenue hit them, police said.
Morales was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem three days later, the NYPD said. The 28-year-old woman, whose leg was broken, and the two children were listed in stable condition after the crash, police said.
The Mercedes-Benz driver, 21-year-old Alexandria Tapia, of Queens, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident not long after the crash, the NYPD said.
Her attorney information wasn’t immediately available Friday.
