The collision happened just after 11 a.m. at Olmstead Avenue and Seward Avenue in Castle Hill. The victim, Tian-Rong Lin, was crossing Seward Avenue as 54-year-old Ramon Cadeno-Ortiz was making a left turn in a van, striking her with the vehicle, police said.

Officers found Lin unconscious and unresponsive with trauma throughout her body. She was taken to Jacobi Hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according to officials.

Cadeno-Ortiz remained on the scene and was taken into custody on charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.
