
WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Suffolk County police are investigating the death of an 80-year-old woman during a hit-and-run crash Sunday night on Long Island.
Just before 9:30 p.m., police received several 911 calls reporting the hit-and-run incident in the vicinity of Tanglewood Road and Ryan Street in West Islip where responders discovered the woman on the sidewalk with serious injuries.
Investigators believe the victim knew the identity of the driver.
"It appears to be an intentional act," Suffolk Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer said.

The victim was in the car with the driver when they got into a dispute and she exited the vehicle. "She got out of the car and then the car came back and hit her," Beyrer added.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was taken to nearby Good Samaritan University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The suspect drove away and the vehicle was recovered, officials said.
The driver remains at large.
An investigation is ongoing.
