NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A woman who pushed an 18-year-old commuter onto the subway tracks at a Queens subway station on Monday was arraigned on charges of attempted murder Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Wednesday.
Shemecca Wise, 26, was arraigned for attempted murder and attempted assault.
Just before 10:30 a.m. on June 5, Wise pushed an 18-year-old woman onto the tracks at the 75th Street-Elderts Lane J train station in Woodhaven, officials said.
The victim was able to get off the tracks but suffered a laceration and substantial knee pain.
"New Yorkers depend on public transportation to get safely to and from work and school. We cannot allow our subway stations to become places to fear," District Attorney Katz said.
Wise is set to return to court on June 8.
If convicted of the attempted murder charge, Wise faces up to 25 years in prison.
